Hi - this month we take a look at the prices 007 pays for food in the books and ask if he can still afford to dine well in the 21st century; examine his kitchen as (barely) seen in No Time to Die; and look at some budget Bond-style watches.

News

With Amazon's purchase of MGM now finalised it can be little surprise to see the James Bond films available to stream on Amazon's Prime Video streaming platform. In the UK Amazon Prime subscribers have had access to all 25 Eon Bond films from Good Friday, including No Time to Die. No Time to Die now on Amazon Prime Video in UK

For many the announcement in March that Amazon had finally closed the deal to buy MGM felt like closure. That was never going to be the end of the story though, as MGM’s operations still needed to be absorbed into the Internet giant. So it was little surprise to learn of resignations at the top of MGM.

Thursday night saw a new production of Macbeth finally open on Broadway with Daniel Craig in the title role. One of the show’s producers is Barbara Broccoli, who spoke to Variety on opening night. She said deciding on a new James Bond will take some time as they need to decide the direction of the series following Daniel Craig's departure from the role.

It’s long been known that Ian Fleming wrote a screenplay for a James Bond film for Rank, but only recently that the lost Moonraker screenplay resurfaced. Fleming wrote a film treatment in 1956, based on his book published the previous year.

Features

In the 21st century can James Bond still afford the best restaurants himself? Or, must MI6 pick up more and more of the tab? Martin Stanley and Thomas Weiss examine Bond's ability to eat well by comparing restaurants from the novels to his salary in License to Dine: Can 007 Continue to Dine Well?

If the delays to the release of No Time To Die confirmed anything, it was that Bond belongs on the big screen. David T Smith discusses the UK screenings of all 25 of Eon’s James Bond films celebrating 60 years of cinematic 007.

Last week Edward Biddulph published an interesting post on his James Bond Food blog. In it he looks at Bond’s kitchen as constructed for No Time to Die. While the kitchen barely features in the film at all, you can a much better look at it in a short behind the scenes feature on YouTube.

Some of the brands associated with 007 are, to say the least, pretty exclusive and have price tags well beyond the reach of many. A recent article by James Bond Lifestyle looked at Bond-style watches on a budget - watches that don't require a second mortgage. And there are some great choices.

A look at all the Jamaican locations used in No Time to DieThis article is currently limited to qualifying Patreon subscribers.

James Bond & Friends

I recently took part in an episode of James Bond & Friends in which we discussed From Russia With Love. Listen below!

Later this month Anthony Horowitz's third continuation novel will be published. I hope to have a review for you, although an advance copy of the book still hasn't arrived from the publisher after being sent weeks ago. The post here is really lousy!

OK, that's all for now. If you've got any questions, comments or news tips then get in touch. Just hit reply to email me here.
