In March the British tabloids dedicated many column inches (or whatever you call it in the digital-first 21st century) to the next James Bond actor.

I couldn't even be bothered to report it on the website. If you managed to avoid the reports, The Sun first said Cillian Murphy in contention for the role. Next they said Aaron Taylor-Johnson had been signed by Eon Productions. That story, based on unnamed sources, was refuted by the BBC, quoting its own anonymous source. And then The Mail joined in and said Taylor-Johnson was being fitted for costumes. Or something like that.

Initial observations:
- Cillian Murphy is too old (47), so no way was he ever in contention as Bond.
- Aaron Taylor-Johnson is the right age for sure (33). I doubt he has been signed though, at least not yet.
More points to consider
Until it looks like there is a director signed for Bond 26 there won't be an actor signed as Bond - the director will be
involved in the casting decision as has happened before. Aaron Taylor-Johnson may be on Barbara Broccoli's list, in which case he may get the role. But at the moment it is too early.

And there is always the chance that Barbara Broccoli has no intention of making Bond 26. Instead she and Michael G Wilson may be more interested in selling their rights to the Bond films. I'm not saying it will happen (tabloid
journos - this is speculation, not a story), but it is a possibility that most people don't seem to consider. Wilson is in his 80s and probably deserves to enjoy a more leisurely retirement. Making big budget films is not leisurely!

The reality is that Bond 26 is unlikely to come any time soon.
