Hi
Welcome to the latest edition of The James Bond Dossier Newsletter.
This month I'm going to take look at the first real news about Bond 23,
review the Goldfinger watchstrap from Corvus, and introduce the drink of
the month.
Bond 23 News
Back in April, Michael G Wilson said that work on Bond 23 had hardly started.
However, at the end of May he stated "we have started work on the new
film, which I can't say anything about. Daniel Craig is very keen to get
going".
However, the first solid news was confirmed just over a week ago, when it
was confirmed in a press release that Peter Morgan would be joining regular
writers Purvis and Wade for the next film. His screen writing credits include
Frost/Nixon, The Queen, and The Last King of Scotland.
I'll bring you more news as details are made available, but meanwhile you
can keep an eye on The James Bond Dossier Bond
23 News section.

Goldfinger watch
strap from Corvus
A while ago I saw on the Absolutely
James Bond forum a project by Corvus Watches to produce a watchstrap
like the one worn by Sean Connery in Goldfinger.
What is interesting about the strap is that it was previously believed to
be black and grey; however, when the Blu-Ray version was released it became
clear that the straps in fact had three colours; dark blue, green and red.
Anyway, I signed up to the mailing list to be kept informed of the project
and once the order book opened up I bought two straps.
The strap is available in both to both NATO and RAF spec and both are available
to fit an 18mm or 20mm watch. While Connery a Rolex Submariner, which takes
a 20mm strap, to be as screen accurate as possible you should go for the
18mm RAF strap, as the strap he wears clearly is too small for the watch.
Despite that, I decided to go for the full size RAF strap for my watch,
as I don't wear a Rolex anyway.
The straps are a relatively pricey $35 each, and although I ordered early
on there was a delay of around 5 weeks before I received the straps, despite
having received an email confirming shipping. After 4 weeks I contacted
the Corvus to let them know I hadn't received my package, only to be told
the 20mm RAF straps would be arriving in a few days; sure enough, around
a week later I got my straps - I don't mind delays, but the shipping notice
did confuse things.
Anyway, the strap is consists of a nylon strap in what looks like the correct
colours from a Blu-Ray screen grab, with high quality buckle and is a very
understated way of dressing like Bond every day - more
info on the Goldfinger watch strap from Corvus.

Drink of the month
If I ask you what drink first comes to mind when you think about James Bond
and drinking you'll probably reply vodka martini. If not the vodka martini,
you ight think the Vesper, or Champagne. But a breakdown if the books shows
he drinks whisky more than any other reink and especially
favours Bourbon.
His first drink is an Americano, which he orders in Casino Royale - yes,
the Vesper appears in it too, but that's later - and the drink reappears
in From Russia With Love (he orders two while at Rome Ciampino airport en
route to Istanbul and one on the Orient Express) and while killing time
in Paris in From A View To A Kill, where we learn two things; it is not
a solid drink; and the cheapest way to improve a poor drink is with expensive
soda water, so he stipulates Perrier; and finally in the short story Risico.
The receipe is as follows:
1 measure Campari
1 measure Cinzano
Poor over ice, top up with soda water and add a slice of lemon. The Americano isn't a drink you find often in bars, but was invented in Milan
in the 1860s. It
was originally called a "Milano-Torino" after the cities from
where two main ingredients came from, but the name was changed to "Americano"
during prohibition when the Italians noticed how many American tourists
ordered the cocktail.
