Hi

First of all I'll give a quick plug for my friends at MI6 Declassified. The latest edition is now available online and I can particularly recommend this edition - although I haven't received my copy yet, I wrote one of the articles :) What more could you want?

The magazine features in-depth coverage of "On Her Majesty's Secret Service", as well as articles on writing "The World Is Not Enough" and "Nightfire" from Electronic Arts - great for any Bond fan to have their collection.

Bond 23 News

The sale of MGM seems to be going on forever, and the bad news for Bond fans is that until the fate of the studio is resolved it is unlikely that any serious work will be done on Bond 23.

Screenwriter Peter Morgan said back in December that he had been working on the script but that it had been put on hold due to the auction of MGM.

The first round of bidding closed mid-January, as I reported in the previous newsletter. A second round of bidding was initially supposed to close on 19th March, but extended to the following Monday. This saw bids from Lions Gate Entertainment, Time Warner and Access Industries.

However, as these were so low MGM's steering committee has presented a plan to creditors to go it alone and the deadline for repayment of debt - due in April - has been extended for the forth time. The new plan will require the studio to raise a further $1 billion in order to make 6 to 8 films per year.

Recent articles

Last time I wrote to you we'd got up to Thunderball in our series on James Bond soundtracks and since then we've added You Only Live Twice and On Her Majesty's Secret Service.

You might also like to read a recent article titled James Bond's Library, which takes a look at the books and authors mentioned by Ian Fleming throughout the James Bond series - as usual you can let me know what YOU think by commenting on the articles.

That's all for now, but if you would like to get in contact about this newsletter - or for any other reason - please get in touch by emailing me at m@thejamesbonddossier.com.
