The James Bond Dossier: turn on images for best user experience

Hi

The first thing to say in this newsletter is Happy Independence Day to everyone from the United States. But if you're not from the US then have a great day all the same ;)

As usual at the end of June, I spent last week on the coast to celebrate my wife's birthday. Usually we spend most of the time on the beach, but not this year.

But you should have seen me last Wednesday! After a couple of beach days on the beach we had thunderstorms... for the rest of the week. I've not seen so much rain for ages!

I was walking my dog when the heavens opened up and I got completely drenched, absolutely wet to the skin and everything soaked. But that's enough of me, let's get on to 007.

Now that we're half way through the year it's time to reflect on everything we know about Bond 25. But unfortunately that doesn't add up to very much at all.
  • Daniel Craig has yet to commit to doing another film and no director has been announced.
  • Neal Purvis and Robert Wade are known to be hired to write the script, but how much progress they've made is anyone's guess.
  • Studios are reported to be lining up to do a distribution deal with MGM/Eon, but nothing has been finalised.
At the moment it feels like we are really no further forward than we were this time last year.

And there is a rumour, completely unsubstantiated, that Barbara Broccoli wants to create an expanded Bond film universe in the style of Marvel Studios. If that is true then it could be that Bond 25 isn't the main focus at the moment. So what next? A Felix Leiter movie? A film starring Miss Moneypenny? Or perhaps a resurrected Jinx spinoff. Who knows.

Just one more thing before I sign off. London's University of Roehampton has launched an academic journal titled "The International Journal of James Bond Studies". They are currently accepting submissions for the second issue, so if you're interested in contributing you can learn how here.

That's all for now. Have a great month and I'll be back at the beginning of August. Just don't hold your breath for any news about Bond 25.

See you then!
