Hi - It's been quite a rollercoaster ride since the last newsletter.

Let's look at what happened.

First of all we had the return of 007 branded Twitter hashtags, which prompted many to believe that the November release was a sure thing.

Then a new poster was released featuring a tux clad Daniel Craig with a Walther PPK in his hand. The poster confirmed a November release.

Then we had an 11 second teaser trailer followed by a two and a half minute trailer with new footage. We also got some new images as the marketing campaign moved up a gear or two.

Then there were the details of the rescheduled release of the soundtrack, a video feature on Safin and then a handful of launches by official partners, including these:

And then, on 1st October, Billie Eilish revealed her music video for No Time to Die, leading many to assume that the November release was set in stone.

Even hardcore doubters like me began to think that there was no way to stop the 007 juggernaut.

But then...

...just a day later and to the utter astonishment of most fans - the filmmakers bowed to the inevitable and announced further delay due to pandemic.

We discussed the trailer and the delay on the James Bond & Friends podcast. I'll give you those links later in this newsletter.

Other news

Sadly I'll start the news with a couple of obituaries.

This last month saw the death of one of the "classic" Bond girls.  Diana Rigg died at home peacefully after suffering from cancer. She played Tracy in On Her Majesty's Secret Service opposite George Lazenby.

And Michael Lonsdale died at his home in France. Over the course of his long career he appeared in more than 200 films but one of his best known roles remains Huge Drax in Moonraker.

Also came the appalling news that a slate plaque dedicated to Ian Fleming was stolen from the obelisk marking his grave. Naturally his family is upset.

I sent out an email on launch day, but last month also saw a redesign of the redesign of the website. On desktop you'll see subtle differences but on mobile the website has been radically improved.

Features

There are a couple of new features on the website this month.

Fiestly, Kathryn Smith looks at John Gardner’s second James Bond novel, For Special Services.

And Javier E. Trujillo reviews issues 8 through 12 of Dynamite’s 2019 comic book series.

James Bond & Friends podcast

As I mentone dabove, we recorded a couple of episodes of James Bond & Friends related to No Time to Die.

In #64 we discuss what we think of the new No Time To Die trailer and relaunched marketing campaign. But then #67 is a discussion recorded a couple of hours after the delay was announced. There are also two new watchalong episodes: And another (that I wasn't able to do) in which the panel delves into the concept of 'Death of the Author' in the context of Ian Fleming's James Bond novels.

If you do listen to the podcasts please leave a review. It really helps get the word out to likeminded Bond fans.

OK, that's all for now. I know many of you are disappointed at the delay. I'll continue sending these newsletters on the first Tuesday of each month and update you any big announcements as they happen.

If you want to get in touch just shoot me an email!

See you next month - stay safe.
