I don't know about where you live but it's definitely summer here.

I'm typing this next to an open window to the sounds of crickets, which always reminds me of reading Dr No, which opens:

"Punctually at six o'clock the sun set with a last yellow flash behind the Blue Mountains, a wave of violet shadow poured down Richmond Road, and the crickets and tree frogs in the fine gardens began to zing and tinkle."

And a few weeks ago I managed to spend a couple of afternoons at the beach.

I guess that always remind me of Thunderball! One of the things I used to love about the James Bond books was they often took me somewhere with sunshine and almost always somewhere considerably more exotic than suburban England.

OK, so let's get on with the newsletter. What's been going on in the world of James Bond?

Oh, crickets.

I knew there was a theme there somehow.

The only thing remotely newsworthy is the announcement of The The James Bond Film Guide, which is due out to coincide with No Time to Die's release.

It's a 296-page authorised guide to all 25 official James Bond films. From 1962’s Dr No to 2021’s No Time To Die, the book takes you through six decades of cinematic history and will be released (if all goes to plan) in October.

Features

The Spy Who Loved Me doesn't have much food or drink and 007 only appears in the last third. But it does at least include James Bond’s staple dish. You can read about the food and drink from the novel here.

Podcasts and livestreams

The latest episodes of James Bond & Friends are now available on Apple Podcasts and elsewhere. You can listen to the most recent episodes below:

I also did another livestream with Bill Koenig of The Spy Command. We discussed how in some ways cinematic Bond's 60th anniversary has already begun. My audio is terrible (sorry for that!) but it's fun to do and great to interact with those who watch live.

So that's it for now, if any major news breaks I'll let you know but otherwise I'll be back at the beginning of August.

Stay safe and see you then!
